With summer fast approaching, the majority are rejoicing at the thought of being able to end the working week with an ice cool beer stretched out on their lawns in the sunshine. However, for those with severe allergies, summer can be a very trying time. As the pollen count continues to climb the summer months can feel like an endless battle for hay fever sufferers. Hay fever is usually at its worst between late March and September, especially when it’s warm, humid, and windy. This is when the pollen count reaches its highest.

When the pollen count is rising, many GP’s advise sufferers to avoid walking/sitting on grass and to avoid going outside for long periods of time. This is the true burden of being a hay fever sufferer, as the allergic reaction confines them to their homes at the height of summer, when they would much rather be outside enjoying the sunny weather with friends and family. That’s where artificial grass comes in, could this be the long-awaited respite for summer allergy sufferers? Keep reading to find out more!

Artificial Grass & Allergies

Having your real lawn transformed into an evergreen expanse will significantly reduce the amount of pollen your garden space. Whilst the artificial lawn does not create pollen itself, unfortunately this does not however prevent pollen and other allergens that float in the summer breeze from being attracted to the artificial grass blades. For this reason, if you are thinking of laying an artificial lawn to reduce allergy suffering it is important to understand the maintenance which is necessary to ensure the lawn continues to aid your symptom reduction long-term. To prevent to build up of pollen and other allergens on your artificial lawn it is essential that the expanse is washed down regularly, ideally with a hose to, to wash away any particles which may have become caught in the nooks and crannies of the lawn’s fibres.

Whilst it would be a true miracle to rid your lawn of outdoor grass, replace this with artificial grass and never suffer with hay fever symptoms again, unfortunately that is not that case. But do not fray! Laying artificial grass at your home’s points of entry (the front and back doors, under window bays, air conditioning vents etc) can however significantly reduce the amount of pollen from the places you’ve been from getting into your home.

Artificial Grass Benefits

Family members – and fur family members, too – who suffer from allergies can benefit from a lawn that is converted to an expanse of artificial turf. Although it doesn’t completely eliminate pollen from nearby trees and grasses, the immediate proximity is significantly less and reduces allergen symptoms from sprouting up instantaneously as you exit your abode. Artificial turf also cuts down on the need to use fertilisers and herbicides that can be harmful to the environment, as well as your furry friends, this can save on water usage and maintenance costs meaning that you’ll see a return on your investment in no time at all!

So don’t delay, take the first steps towards transforming your lawn today!
